Shellfish Information

The Coles River IS OPEN.
Lee’s River WILL REMAIN CLOSED.
DMZ/BAY AREA IS OPEN.

For all that may still need a residential shellfish permit, they are being sold at the town clerks office again. Call ahead before arriving so they can have all of your information and paperwork ready.

YEARLY BOAT RAMP PASSES MAY NOW BE OBTAINED AT THE POLICE STATION CHECKS OR MONEY ORDERS ONLY NO CASH….

Be advised the area near Swansea marina and the area from the Coles river club south to Rhode Island line will be closed to shellfishing due to new regulation sent down from the state.

CLOSED DUE TO HIGH BACTERIA COUNT IS COLES RIVER FROM REYNOLDS PROPERTY LINE NORTH TO 195 BRIDGE.

ALSO BE ADVISED THE NEW DAY PASS METER WILL BE INSTALLED IN FIRST WEEK OF MAY AT THE BOAT RAMP. ACCEPTS EXACT BILL AND CHANGE ALSO CREDIT AND DEBIT CARDS. BE ADVISED THE MACHINE DOES NOT MAKE CHANGE.

COMMERCIAL FISHERMEN MUST ABIDE BY THE PRE-DETERMINED MANAGEMENT DAYS OF OPENING. See New Rules & Regulations Booklet with areas above.  RECREATIONAL SHELLFISHERS CAN SHELLFISH THESE AREAS ANY DAY THE GREEN FLAGS ARE FLYING FOR THE RIVERS. Please request a “Relay Management Card” from the warden explaining the open / closed days and sections for commercial shellfishing.
