Swansea Police Participating in Cops for Kids with Cancer No Shave November Initiative

Chief Marc Haslam is pleased to announce that the Swansea Police Department will be participating in Cops for Kids with Cancer’s No Shave initiative for the first time this November.

As part of the initiative, members of the Swansea Police Department may donate or raise $150 to forego departmental facial hair restrictions during the month of November in support of Cops for Kids with Cancer.

Those interested in helping to donate can visit the Swansea Police fundraising page here.

Residents can also drop off donations at the Swansea Police Station, 1700 G.A.R. Highway. Donations can be made by money order or check. Checks should be made out to the Swansea Police Patrolman’s Association or Cops for Kids with Cancer.

To date, the Swansea Police Department has raised $4,300 for Cops for Kids with Cancer.

“We are pleased to be participating in the No Shave November initiative for the first time in our department’s history this year,” Chief Haslam said. “Throughout the month, we are extremely proud to partner with Cops for Kids with Cancer in support of their mission of assisting families with young cancer patients during their time of greatest need, and we hope to see our community members join us in our efforts.”

As part of the department’s community-wide campaign, Swansea School Resource Officers Macaila Saunders and Shane Mello will also be hosting fundraiser competitions at the Swansea Public Schools throughout the month of November.

SRO Saunders will host a Nickelodeon-style “Slimed” event in which the elementary school that raises the largest donation will be able to slime her on Nov. 24. At the middle school and high school, SRO Mello will host a competition between the two schools and whichever school raises the most money will be able to shave his newly grown hair in early December.

Donations from each elementary school will be tallied from Monday, Nov. 1 through Friday, Nov. 19 and donations from the middle and high schools will be tallied from Dec. 1 through Dec. 10.

Anyone with questions regarding the No Shave November fundraiser is encouraged to contact Lt. Joseph Martin at joseph.martin@swanseapolice.com.
