Swansea Police Determine Social Media Posts Pose No Credible Threat

SWANSEA — Chief Mark Foley and Superintendent of Schools Scott Holcomb report that the Swansea Police Department investigated a number of non-specific social media threats made this week by a high school student.

The Swansea Police Department has determined that there is no credible threat to students or school safety.

On Wednesday afternoon, multiple students at Joseph Case High School approached Athletic Director Anthony Palladino. They reported that a student had sent non-specific threats on social media, which raised concerns about student safety.

Athletic Director Palladino immediately notified Principal Christopher Costa, who notified the School Resource Officer and Swansea Police Department. Per police and school district policies, an investigation was swiftly launched.

Investigating officers quickly identified the student and visited the student’s home. They determined that the student had no means to carry out the threats. The student has since been removed from the school.

The investigation concluded that there were no credible threats to Joseph Case High School or any students. The threats originated from multiple social media posts.

No criminal charges have been filed at this time, and Swansea Public Schools will be handling this matter internally.

Out of an abundance of caution, there is an increased police presence at Swansea Schools this week.
