SWANSEA — The Swansea Police Department has committed to raising awareness of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) throughout the month of April.
The Swansea Police Department’s Autism Patch Initiative, a public awareness and fundraising campaign, will benefit the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism.
Throughout April, Swansea Police officers are free to wear a special police patch to spread awareness and acceptance of residents with autism. Community members can also purchase the patch from the Department for $10.
All proceeds will be reinvested in the Flutie Foundation’s safety programs focusing on keeping people and families affected by autism safe in our communities.

The Swansea Police Department will also participate in a Family Resource Fair on April 12, hosted by the Swansea Parent Advisory Council (PAC) and Dighton-Rehoboth SEPAC (Special Education Parent Advisory Council).
“Each year, autism affects more of our residents’ lives, and law enforcement has to adjust to that reality,” said Chief Mark Foley. “The Swansea Police Department is committed to keeping children and adults with autism safe in our community.”
