Swansea Police Department Receives $23,810 State Grant to Improve Road Safety

SWANSEA — Chief Mark Foley is pleased to share that the Swansea Police Department has been awarded $23,810.30 in state grant funding to improve road safety.

The Healey-Driscoll Administration awarded more than $12.4 million in funding through the Municipal Road Safety, State Agency Traffic Safety and Underserved Communities Traffic Safety Grant Programs.

The Swansea Police Department received funding through the Municipal Road Grant Safety Program. The funding will allow departments to afford road safety initiatives such as traffic safety enforcement, bicyclist and pedestrian safety enforcement, non-enforcement activities such as training or community events and the purchase of traffic safety equipment or other community safety items such as bike helmets.

Additionally, the funding will be used for non-enforcement safety activities, including a pedestrian safety meeting at the Council on Aging, a bicycle rodeo safety event and a car seat safety installation event.

“This grant will allow us to keep our roads safer by making extra patrols possible,” Chief Foley said. “We will be able to conduct important enforcement initiatives to improve safety for all community members.”
